Lucy Zelić has called out the Australian Defence Force and the Office of the Special Investigator, questioning how details of Ben Roberts-Smith’s arrest were known by the media within minutes.

She’s questioned the decision to make the arrest just weeks before Anzac Day, when Australia’s most decorated soldier offered to hand himself in several times in the lead up to Tuesday’s arrest.

“But all of this does little to quell the public outrage that this was done with the intent to humiliate and to cause maximum distress. Why now?” she questioned.

Roberts-Smith has always maintained his innocence in the face of war crimes accusations.
