Former Labor Minister for Defence Material Dr Mike Kelly has put his support behind the call to not sell off the Victoria Barracks

Speaking to Michael McLaren, the former MP says the time in his portfolio has allowed him to understand the ongoing problems the portfolio faces.

“There’s certain sites that have a meaning and a merit of their own. And Sydney’s Victoria Barracks is definitely one of those … and it is a utilised site,” he said.

“I understand that there’s a budgetary dimension to all this … We’ve got a lot of work to do to get the Defence Force to where it needs to be right now,” he added.
