Why would Islamic State attack Russia?

Clinton Maynard

Mike is joined by Professor Greg Barton, Chair in Global Islamic Politics, Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship & Globalisation, Deakin University, to discuss the recent terrorist attack in Moscow, where gunmen stormed a rock concert venue, leaving 133 dead and many injured.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, believed to be the work of its branch, ISIS-K, established in Afghanistan.

Professor Barton delves into the identity of ISIS-K, their motives for targeting Russia, and the implications for the broader terrorism threat.
