‘Cheap knock-offs’: Why E-bikes are sparking lithium battery concerns

Dr Matthew Priestley, from the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications at UNSW, joined Michael McLaren for a discussion about E-Bike Batteries and the reasons why this sector is leading the way with lithium-ion battery drama.

He revealed just why the seemingly simple process of finding batteries on the shelves for E-bikes is leading to serious issues, including fires, and emphasised the importance of being cautious about where batteries are purchased.

“Lots of cheap knock-off products,” he said.
