Thriving Taronga Zoo sparks questions over 500+ unpaid volunteers

Sydney’s Taronga Zoo is the best of its kind in Australia, but questions are being asked as to why crucial roles in the organisation are done not by paid employees, but instead by over 500 volunteers.

Taronga Zoo CEO Cameron Kerr spoke with Chris O’Keefe about the volunteer scheme, defending the zoo’s use of unpaid labour.

Stewart Little, General Secretary of the PSA, was shocked over the revelation Taronga Zoo had been using significant numbers of volunteers in crucial roles.
