Hyundai sells its 2 millionth car in Australia
Korean car maker Hyundai has reached a milestone in Australia by delivering its
two millionth vehicle. The two millionth vehicle sold was the all-new Kona SUV
delivered by Morley Hyundai in Western Australia, the state where Hyundai’s
Australian story began in 1986. Interestingly, the first imports of Hyundai cars
came into the country via Hyundai’s earthmoving division importer in Western
Australia however given the immediate response to the South Korean brand
through its first model, the small Excel hatchback at $9,990, the import business
was quickly sold to Alan Bond. However, Hyundai Motor Company Australia was
eventually established as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company
in Korea. Today, Hyundai is the No. 5 top-selling car brand in Australia with a
market share of November year to date of 6.3 percent. Its best-selling model the
mid-sized Tucson SUV.
