Road fatalities climb in NSW – Rising by 17.2% in 12 months
Australia’s road toll continues to climb with data released by the Australian
Automobile Association showing 1240 fatalities in the 12 months to September,
an increase of 4.6 per cent on the year before. In N.S.W. fatalities tallied 340, a
17.2 per cent increase. The increase put down to more people driving after the
pandemic, driver behaviour and the uptake in SUV’s, safer for occupants but
more dangerous to every else. No mention of the rapid increase in migration and
the rising number of motorists – nor the lower driving standards – these two
aspects linked in my observation. You witness it every day – poor driving
standards and a lack of judgement – drivers making quick decisions with an
obvious lack of skill, care and knowledge. The current license testing regime is
simply not stringent enough and with our rapid migration increase it can only get
worse.
