2GB celebrates its 97th birthday!
Today marks 97 years since 2GB first went to air.
In 1957, 2GB became the first Australian radio station to air news bulletins on the hour, every hour, during its broadcast day – a cornerstone of what we do today, some 66 years later.
The first voice on air was Bishop George Sydney Arundale. Among his first words on air were these:
“We shall utilise every means in our power to interest always, to amuse often, but always to inspire. We trust that it may someday be said by listeners-in to our Station that our programmes always make them happier, always kindlier”.
