Wollongong has a new local hero in Alex Volkanovski – but not in the eyes of its mayor.

Gordon Bradbery has refused to give the UFC star the keys to the city, believing it would promote violence!

“Nothing more than an opportunity to promote violence”, is how the Mayor described the UFC. But Premier Chris Minns disagrees.

“Alex Volkanoski is an Aussie sporting hero and the best fighter in the world at the moment. UFC may not be for everyone but Alex is the ultimate professional who has contributed to the Wollongong community including supporting the NSW Government’s campaign to get people vaccinated during COVID. Seems like a silly decision to me.”
