Singer Katy Perry is appealing a trademark loss to Australian fashion designer Katie Perry. 

Australian Katie Perry has explained her reasons for initiating the legal battle, “It happens so often to Australian small businesses where overseas conglomerates come in and just crush them with their financial might and power.”

“I have little kids and I want to teach them to be the role model that when something is wrong to stand up, no matter how hard it is.

Miriam Stiel, Partner and Practice Group Leader (Intellectual Property, Patent & Trade Marks) at Allens, shone a light on the legal aspect of the case.

“Trademarks can be one of a company’s most valuable assets”, she explained.
