Oversights in National Indigenous Australians Agency

Mark Levy

Sky News host Sharri Markson has exposed a lack of audit controls in the National Indigenous Australians Agency, triggering debate.

In a recent broadcast, Markson delved into the audit report which highlighted inadequacies in its fraud management systems.

The report revealed the agency, designed to uplift Indigenous communities, lacks proper oversight and compliance mechanisms to ensure funds are directed appropriately.

Speaking to Ray Hadley, Markson also commented on the controversial topic of ‘black cladding’ wherein companies are identified as Indigenous for preferential tendering processes, potentially exploiting the system. “It’s very lucrative to pitch your businesses as being Indigenous… But we have to make sure the money is actually going to the Indigenous communities that need it,” she said.
