Willoughby Council set to privatise beloved childcare centre

CHRIS O'KEEFE

The Willoughby Council have made the shocking decision to privatise Chatswood’s Devonshire Street Childcare Centre with no guarantee the children or workers will have a spot.

In an exclusive interview, the United Services Union organiser Thomas Gao told Chris O’Keefe it’s an easy way out for the council.

“We don’t believe there is any justification or reasoning for this… it is a financially viable and profitable community asset,” said Mr Gao

Willoughby resident Fiona Chang is upset her children’s childcare centre could be privatised with no community consultation.

She has been given no assurance her children will still have a spot once the change in ownership happens.

“I’m really really disappointed in all this… the centre has the best reputation in the area,” said Ms Chang.
