Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Quality) at the University of NSW, Professor Merlin Crossley, believes their new AI detection software can recognise when students are using Chat-GPT to cheat.

Chat-GPT is a language processing tool driven by AI technology that can assist you with tasks like composing emails, essays, and code.

Students are using this technology to write A-grade essays for them and Professor Crosley says it’s “shaken [them] all up”.

“We don’t know how well it works for detecting cheating, but neither do the students, so everyone is being cautious,” Professor Crosley told Michael McLaren.

“We are also redesigning our tests.”
