Peter Dutton and the Liberals have revealed whether they will support the Indigenous Voice to parliament referendum or oppose it.

The Liberals have decided to formally oppose a continuous Indigenous Voice to parliament, after voting on the matter today.

The Liberal party is in favour of establishing local and regional Voices that would be legislated but not embedded in the Constitution, however, they reject the Albanese government’s proposed model.

“This is going to be 6 months of grubby, viscous vitriol and we’re talking about our Indigenous brothers and sisters,” Chris O’Keefe told Deborah Knight.

Shadow Foreign Minister, Simon Birmingham, told Chris O’Keefe that the Liberal party’s decision should be “viewed as an invitation to find a way forward”.

“I want to see a positive referendum put to the country, one that has the greatest chance of success,” said Minister Birmingham.
