The truth behind Australia’s plastic and recycling crisis

Clean Up Australia has released a 2022 national rubbish report that has exposed the country’s plastic crisis.

The organisation aims to motivate and refocus Aussies to adopt more sustainable habits.

Pip Kiernan is the Chair of Clean Up Australia and told Deborah Knight about a recent study showing Australia is the largest consumer per capita of single-use plastic in the world.

Although there are new measures put in place to help combat this issue, there are different types of plastics that need further attention.

“Soft plastics rose by 7 per cent, hard plastic by 5 per cent and polystyrene by 5 per cent,” Kiernan said.
