Chris O'Keefe & Mark Levy

The Vatican has confirmed Cardinal George Pell has died after complications from hip surgery.

Mr Pell died in Rome. He was speaking to doctors post-hip replacement surgery where he went into cardiac arrest.

A few days earlier he attended the funeral of Pope Benedict XVI.

EWTN’s Vatican correspondent Colm Flynn, who broke the story, told Chris O’Keefe he had met with the Cardinal only a few days before his passing.

“I said to people after I left the meeting , he seemed in very good form, he was talking about the future of the Catholic Church.”
