Cardinal George Pell dies in Rome aged 81
The Vatican has confirmed Cardinal George Pell has died after complications from hip surgery.
Mr Pell died in Rome. He was speaking to doctors post-hip replacement surgery where he went into cardiac arrest.
A few days earlier he attended the funeral of Pope Benedict XVI.
EWTN’s Vatican correspondent Colm Flynn, who broke the story, told Chris O’Keefe he had met with the Cardinal only a few days before his passing.
“I said to people after I left the meeting , he seemed in very good form, he was talking about the future of the Catholic Church.”
