Shadow Treasurer weighs in on plans to abolish stamp duty
Labor says plans to abolish stamp duty for most first homebuyers, could benefit more than 46-thousand people.
The state opposition is promising to remove the tax for those purchasing a property worth up to 800 thousand dollars, if it wins the upcoming election.
A steep discount would also be offered to people wanting to buy homes upwards of a million dollars.
Shadow Treasurer Daniel Mookhey told John Stanley it’s a winning initiative.
John Stanley took Mr Mookhey to task over a few unanswered queries regarding the policy.
John Stanley: “You’ve got no plans of finding a better way of raising that revenue?”
Daniel Mookhey: “No we are syaing for first home buyers..
John Stanley: “I’m talking about broadly stamp duty, will it stay for everyone else.”
Daniel Mookhey: “Any broader question about stamp duty requires intervention from the commenwealth.”
