Lismore residents living in cars 10-months on from floods

The Lismore mayor says his community is coping with a ‘humanitarian disaster’ – in the wake of devastating floods.

Four of the 11 promised temporary housing sites are still under construction – which has forced people to spend Christmas in their cars or under their damaged homes.

Mayor of Lismore Steve King told John Stanley the community is living through a humanitarian disaster.

New South Wales Emergency Services and Flood Recovery Minister Steph Cooke told John Stanley emergency accommodation is available for flood victims.

“Nobody will be turned away. Some of the accommodation is in Lismore and in nearby towns, so no one will have to go too far from home.“
