Why a Sydney bar is refusing to play Mariah Carey’s Christmas anthem

Mark Levy

A bar in Sydney’s CBD has been labelled a ‘grinch’ for refusing to play ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’.

The Mariah Carey hit won’t be heard at country and western bar Joelene’s this festive season.

The bar’s owner Simon Rose Hopkins told Mark Levy they faced some backlash, but most patrons are just happy to escape the song.

“We’re certainly not the grinch, we just don’t rate the artist.

“When people calm down they’ll see all the cocktails, lights and music we are doing for Christmas.”
