Report reveals minor parties receiving historic support

A new study shows more people are voting for minor parties and independents than ever before.

This year’s federal election saw what has been described as a ‘seismic shift’ from the major parties.

Almost one in three voters cast their ballot for either a minor party or an independent candidate.

ANU Professor Ian McAllister told Luke Grant it’s been driven by distrust in politics.

“The major political parties are not seen to be looking after the interests of ordinary voters.”
