Don Spencer’s songwriting competition for disadvantaged children has attracted a record number of entrants this year.

There were 1500 school-aged children ranging who submitted music in what is the 20th anniversary of the competition.

Founder Don Spencer said he’s constantly blown away by the amount of talent in the country.

“It is exciting,” he told Deb Knight on 2GB Afternoons.

“Obviously it’s wonderful to hear all this music and know that they’re creative, but the other thing is of course it gives kids a chance to express themselves, and that’s really important.”
