Consumer group Choice is warning people about the risks of extended warranties when out shopping.

Choice bought products from 80 stores in the Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys chains, and found 91% of the stores tried to sell extended warranties.

Marg Rafferty, the editorial director of Choice, told Deborah Knight customers should be aware of their rights when making purchases.

“A great many of the inclusions that extended warranties have are things you are already covered for, and have rights under Australia’s consumer law.”
