Late night drilling causes uproar on suburban street
A 2GB listener has sent through a video of late night drilling in Petersham this week.
The drilling didn’t stop until 10pm, with the noise upsetting many residents and keeping young children awake.
Locals say the construction on Croydon Street is ongoing and nowhere near finished, and are bracing for more late night noise.
In NSW, from Monday though Saturday between 8pm and 7am, excessive noise or use of power tools is banned, although there are exemptions for essential construction.
Update: The Inner West Council has provided the below statement to 2GB in response to the late night drilling.
Urgent work to remediate a driveway on Croydon Street Petersham undertaken last night was scheduled at night in error.
Inner West Council has now instructed the contractor that the work should take place in daylight hours.
Residents of Croydon Street will be notified in writing that the work will continue from next Monday during the day.
Inner West Council apologises for any inconvenience last night’s work caused.
