Calls for better protection of tenants’ information following data breaches

Better protection of tenants’ information has been backed by a senior minister.

Tenants are routinely required to submit sensitive information to real estate agencies when applying for rental properties.

NSW Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello told Jim Wilson industry groups and renters have raised concerns about a potential Optus-style data breach.

“We need to re-visit how much information we overshare in the 21st century, it just isn’t fit for purpose.”
