Minister explains new strategy to tackle problem gambling

Michael McLaren

Reforms are on the way for gambling advertising, with new rules to come into effect next year.

The “gamble responsibly” tagline will be replaced with seven options, including “you win some, you lose more”.

Ads also need to include advice on how problem gamblers can seek support.

Minister for Social Services Amanda Rishworth says the reforms are based on behavioural research.

“The gamble responsibility tagline is no longer working, especially for those who are struggling.

“The new taglines are much more effective to get people to think twice before they take a bet.”
