New bans coming for single-use plastics in NSW

2GB Afternoons

New bans on single-use plastics will take effect in NSW starting tomorrow.

The ban on single-use plastic bags will be expanded to include items such as plastic straws, cutlery and certain hair and face products.

Minister for Environment James Griffin told Deborah Knight the ban will help clean up our streets and waterways.

“Single-use plastic items make up 60 percent of all the litter found in NSW.

“This ban will make a difference. So much of this stuff makes its way into the environment.”
