Treasurer Jim Chalmers has been caught out in an embarrassing budget bungle.

An energy question from Nine’s political reporter Charles Coucher at the National Press Club tripped up Mr Chalmers.

“If you think we’re that gullible, you’ve got another thing coming,” Ben Fordham said.
