Minister ‘seriously concerned’ over safety of Sydney Opera House

Trent Nikolic

A Minister is concerned over shock claims saying the Sydney Opera House is “falling apart”.

Whistleblowers from the Sydney Opera House have said the historic building has millions of dollars of unresolved maintenance issues, which have been left unchecked.

NSW Shadow Arts Minister John Graham told Jim Wilson it’s a very serious issue he is concerned about.

“I have been down to look myself and it’s true, there are significant bits of the seawall being held up by straps.

Ian Cashen, Sydney Opera House executive director of Building, told Jim Wilson he doesn’t agree with the claims.

“It’s a beautiful building which is very well taken care of.

“We are always undertaking maintenance work, safety is a number one priority for us.”
