What you can do to avoid a shark bite

A shark attack in Coffs Harbour is in the spotlight as NSW councils consider removing shark nets.

A great white shark bit a paddler’s outrigger canoe in half last Wednesday morning.

There’s been a spike in shark attacks as a number of state councils are lobbying the state government to get rid of shark nets.

Associate Professor of Environmental Management Daryl McPhee told Deborah Knight there needs to be “greater awareness for shark conservation”.

“We need to be taking greater individual responsibility.

“Don’t swim in dirty water near a river mouth after rain … don’t swim amongst bait fish.”
