Diver fighting for life after being pulled from water in North Bondi
A scuba diver is fighting for his life after being pulled from the water unconscious in waters off North Bondi.
The 29-year-old man had been spear fishing with five other friends when he failed to resurface.
The other scuba divers then retrieved him from the water, before commencing CPR on rocks nearby.
He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition.
Five other divers were assisted from the rocks by a Careflight helicopter and were treated for shock.
NSW Ambulance Inspector Giles Buchanan said it’s been a traumatic experience for the group.
“NSW Ambulance paramedics were called in to treat a man who’d been spear fishing with friends.
“He was found unconscious and pulled from the water before his friends attempted CPR on the
rocks.
“The Toll Ambulance Helicopter’s medical team landed on Bondi Beach, where they treated the
man, along with NSW Ambulance intensive care and special operations paramedics.
“This was a very traumatic experience for this man’s friends and we commend their quick
response in trying to assist their friend.”
