A convicted paedophile has been taken into custody after outcry over a decision to grant him bail.

Robert van Gestel was convicted of eight offences in June but despite recently passed laws, had not been taken into custody ahead of his sentencing.

Ray Hadley has been fighting for van Gestel and two convicted paedophiles to be stripped of their bail.

During yesterday’s appeal, a Crown prosecutor told the Court of Criminal Appeal it was highly likely van Gestel would go to prison.

The 78-year-old was then taken into custody and his bail revoked.
