NSW Government revises covid reinfection period

Trent Nikolic

The NSW government have today revised the covid reinfection period from 12 weeks to four weeks.

People who feel ill any time after four weeks of infection are now urged to get a test and if positive will be treated as a new case.

Dr Jeremy McAnulty from NSW Health joined Jim Wilson on Drive to explain the decision.

“It’s about safety for both people who have might covid and not know it and secondly the broader community,” he said.

“[The new strains] have mutated enough to kind of get around our immune systems.

“We’re expecting to see another upswing in cases through the next few weeks.”

Mr McAnulty also responded to the Coral Princess covid cruise ship fiasco.
