‘Huge mess’: Veterans’ Affairs Minister vows to clear shameful backlog

Ben Fordham

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Matt Keogh has vowed to clear the shameful backlog of invoices for veterans.

Ben raised concern yesterday about a 103-year-old war veteran who had her assistance scaled back from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Minister Keogh told Ben Fordham he inherited around 77,000 unpaid invoices and currently “it’s a sad state of affairs”.

“There’s been some critical drop balls that I’ve had to pick up from the previous government.”

Mr Keogh said the Department is working overtime to make sure the issue is sorted.
