A journey through the history of Pyrmont Bridge

The iconic Pyrmont Bridge has turned 120 today, celebrating an important place in Sydney’s history.

Convener of the Pyrmont History Group Donald Denoon joined Luke Grant on Drive for a walk through the bridge’s fascinating history.

“Everything that the Sydney needed but was dirty happened in Pyrmont … it had an unwelcome reputation despite the fact it was an essential service,” he said.

“Criminals on their way back from robbing banks in the city would sometimes miss-time [the bridge’s opening], if they arrived at the bridge too soon they’d get caught and too late they’d get wet.”
