Researchers make breakthrough on crop disease

Researchers have been mapping an important gene, underlying leaf rust resistance in barley.

The genome has previously been used to protect crops from the disease-causing fungus that costs farmers $350 million a year in lost production and fungicides.

Rural Editor Sophie Clarke caught up with the University of Sydney’s Professor Robert Park, to find out more about the latest findings.
