NSW government answers the tough questions on compulsory land acquisition

Jim Wilson Exclusive

The Beaches Link project is on hold but the acquisition of homes to make way for the motorway has not stopped.

Jim Wilson questioned the government on why residents were being booted out of their homes when the project could be years away from happening or ditched altogether.

“It doesn’t make sense.” he said.

Natalie Ward, NSW Minister for Roads, joined Jim Wilson to explain why the government is still acquiring homes for the Beaches Link.

“We are pressing ahead, we are committed to the project, the government is committed to relieving congestion and that is exactly we will be doing here,” she said.

Minister Ward confirmed to Jim Wilson that there was no rush in acquiring the homes.

“There is no rush at the moment, a number of things do need to happen first,” she said.

“We are happy to talk to the 14 families closely if they need more time, what we have said is that we will give certainty now and if they want to sell we will buy their properties and if they need a bit more time we are happy to buy a bit later.”
