Years of neglect from NSW governments causing shortage of rural GPs
There are growing shortages of rural and remote doctors due to neglect from NSW governments.
A recent report from NSW Parliament showed in the past 10 years, NSW has lost 600 rural and remote GPs, equivalent to 75% of the rural GP workforce.
CEO of Rural and Remote Medical Services Mark Burdack told Deborah Knight, something needs to change.
“The reports really shined a light on how far away we are from a quality of access to healthcare in Australia,” he said.
“It’s a tragedy that in Australia, a very wealthy country, we deny people access to the right to healthcare.”
