Newington College is seriously considering a co-ed switch in a proposal to make the school more culturally and socio-economically diverse.

Dr Terrance Fitzsimmons from the AIBE Centre for Gender Equality in the Workplace at the University of Queensland told Deborah Knight this potential decision is, “a sign of the times”.

Over the last few years, the trend seems to be gaining more traction and Mr Fitzsimmons isn’t surprised.

“We’ve really seen a massive increase in discussion around gender equality.

“The issue of single-sex schooling is a complex one.”
