Infectious diseases expert urges caution over fourth COVID shot

Ben Fordham

An infectious diseases expert says more evidence is needed on the effectiveness of a second COVID booster before it is introduced in Australia.

Early data out of Israel suggested the fourth COVID shot doesn’t provide a stronger benefit against Omicron.

Professor Robert Booy told Ben Fordham “it may well be that it’s not improving upon what the third dose has done”.

“We need to have good evidence before we use a fourth booster dose and until we have that evidence I don’t think we should proceed.

“What’s coming within two months is a special booster for Omicron … that may well be something we end up using later this year or early next year.”
