The NSW government is under pressure to unveil a plan to protect schools from COVID outbreaks. 

Students are set to return to school in less than four weeks but there’s been no word yet on how health measures will look in the classroom.

NSW Labor Deputy Leader Prue Car told Chris O’Keefe there needs to be a plan to prevent schools from being shut down.

“We can’t send our children back to remote learning the way we have the last two years,” she said.

“It’s not fair for teachers, it’s not safe for other staff working in the schools and it’s certainly not feasible for students, who we need in our classrooms in front of their teachers.”

Ms Car said parents have a right to expect the government does everything possible to make the return to school as smooth as possible.

“The very best health advice needs to be provided to the government.

“Where is the plan to ensure that every time a child gets in contact with a case or a teacher comes down with COVID, if Omicron is going to be that rampant, that a school isn’t shut down.”
