Chaz Mostert and Lee Holdsworth have conquered the mountain, taking out the 2021 Bathurst 1000 title.

Holdsworth, who has been competing in the Bathurst 1000 for 18 years, told Mark Levy and Mark Taylor the win has “been a long time coming”.

“That race is why I got into motorsport in the first place, I grew up watching … all those legends of the sport.

“It’s pretty special to think that there’s some young kids seeing me put the trophy above my head at the end of the day and have them start their motorsport career in the same way.”

His prospects for defending the title in 2022 depend on getting another great car and crew, or getting back behind in the seat of the Walkinshaw Andretti United Commodore.

“Sometimes I feel like the mountain gods choose the winner before you even get there.”
