A candidate for Sydney Lord Mayor has called out seemingly nonsensical COVID precautions imposed on local council elections.

Pre-polling began yesterday, but some voters were confused by the lack of how-to-vote cards from candidates.

Sydney Small Business Party candidate and sitting councillor Angela Vithoulkas confirmed to Ben Fordham handing out pamphlets is permitted, but only from 100m beyond the polling place.

Corflute signs can also only be erected before 7am and dismantled after 7pm, despite polling places closing at 5pm.

“Apparently COVID is rife on the streets between 5pm and 7pm, but it disappears at 7.01 Ben!”

Ms Vithoulkas also claimed “no jab, no vote” is in effect at some locations even though voters don’t need to be double-vaccinated as voting is essential.

“There are polling booths turning people away from their democratic right to vote.”
