‘You’re just making it up now’: MPs clash over electric car taxes

The federal government’s backing of electric cars has raised questions about affordability.

Labor MP Joel Fitzgibbon says taxes should be removed on electric vehicles to make them more affordable to consumers.

However, Energy Minister Angus Taylor told Deborah Knight a number of taxes have already been removed under free trade negotiations.

Joel Fitzgibbon: “If you remove fringe benefits tax on EVs it would make them more competitive, that would be a very good start.”

Angus Taylor: “This is a policy that will have no impact, just allows Albo to say one thing and do another.”

Joel Fitzgibbon: “You’re just making it up now as you go along, Angus.”
