NSW farmers have been devastated by recent downpours as crops take the brunt of the heavy rains.

Walgett farmer Jamie Warden told Ben Fordham he finished his crop just in time but farmers near Narrabri have taken a hit.

“At the moment, we don’t need rain.

“I’ve had a few mates here that have been absolutely smashed.

“It’s devastating for these farmers who are coming out of eight years of drought … but that’s mother nature for you.”

Dubbo Mayor Stephen Lawrence it’s too early to tell what the total damage bill will be, but the heavy rain has been “disastrous” for farmers.

“The quality of the yield is impacted, the capacity to harvest is impacted.

“[It’s] much harder to use those machines to get it; also harder to get into the paddocks obviously, if they’re flooded.

“It’s just been one thing after another for them.”
