Deborah Knight challenges TGA’s ‘wrong call’ on the contraceptive pill

Deborah Knight has called out the Therapeutic Goods Administration’s decision to reject pharmacists from selling the contraceptive pill over the counter.

Women’s access to sexual healthcare, she argued, is being swept up in a “territorial” dispute between the Pharmacists’ Guild and the Australian Medical Association.

“The AMA says that pharmacies are not appropriate private clinical settings for anyone to discuss details of sexual health.

“But I’m not sure how many women who go to get a repeat of their script … go into that level of detail with their GP.

“I think it’s something the TGA should rethink.”
