Sydneysiders are being warned of the chance of a severe thunderstorm as dark storm clouds roll into the city.

The west is already copping an enormous deluge, drenching Penrith and Parramatta.

Sky News weather presenter Tom Saunders told Jim Wilson the east should prepare for damaging wind, flash flooding and potential hail.
