Crime File: The Granny Killer
A big, jolly man in his late 50s, John Wayne Glover was a sales representative with a pie company and a volunteer charity worker with the Senior Citizens Society. Outwardly happy and married with two daughters, the Glovers lived in the harbourside Sydney suburb of Mosman.
It was mainly in these tranquil surroundings that John Glover would murder his victims, all elderly females, in broad daylight. Police originally believed a young sex killer was responsible, but the murders weren’t sexually motivated. John Glover was impotent. But Glover was addicted to poker machines and the easiest way to feed his addiction was to steal money by murdering elderly ladies for their purses.
