This week Jim shines the spotlight on Roy Rene – ‘Mo McCackie’
Roy Rene, born Henry van der Sluys born on 15 February 1891 at Hindley Street, Adelaide, was the Australian comedian and vaudevillian.
As the bawdy character Mo McCackie, Rene was one of the most well-known and successful Australian comedians of the 20th century whose greatest asset was his superb timing. This enabled him to ‘get away with’ the suggestive double entendre while he never technically said anything obscene.
