Most birds are ‘lefties’

Touch your nose. Which hand did you use? Human beings tend to use their right hand, but if you were a bird, chances are you would use your left.

Humans aren’t the only creatures with a dominant hand (or foot). Research shows almost half of parrots are left-dominant. Same for sulfur-crested cockatoos.

Dr Gráinne Cleary, author of Your Backyard Birds, joins John Stanley on why birds have a dominant side, and if it is a common trait in birds.
