Former Senator and Retired Major General Jim Molan says defence forces around the world are plagued with issues of suicide, and society should stop blaming government and accept they’re also needed in bringing the alarming number of deaths down.

“Nobody goes to war and comes away uninfluenced and unaffected,” he told the Weekend Edition’s Natalie Peters.

“The Unites States Air Force, which has been at war savagely for fifteen years now, suffered 79 suicides last year.  That was twice the rate of the year before.”

“It’s not just the government or DVA [Department of Veterans Affairs] or whatever, it’s our responsibility. Are you ok?”
